With hyperbolic humor, Bruel describes the dangerous process of cat bathing, from collecting the necessary tools (including cat shampoo and a “suit of armor” for humans), to finding and coaxing Kitty into the water, to dealing with your now-clean-though-very-unhappy animal.
This follow-up to Bad Kitty (2005) pairs Bruel’s witty asides and spastic, tongue-in-cheek commentaries with more high-energy cartoon illustrations. My girls especially loved the fantasy dream sequence in the middle of the book. You will end up reading the whole book in one sitting-laughing hysterically through the whole thing. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's a chapter book. My favorite was the change of underwear (because stressful situations can cause accidents).The book includes some fascinating facts about cats, and a couple well-placed letters from the editor. Check out the list of supplies for bathing kitty. The longer format allows for even more bad kitty humor. The illustrations are in black and while, but they are still as funny as ever. I read that the author meant it as a crossover book to help kids make the transition from picture book to chapter book by using familiar characters. I was surprised to find that it was chapter book. (Be sure to check your sneakers before putting them on.)There's an epilogue about bathing puppy. This over-the-top book includes all the steps to bathing kitty, including: finding kitty, getting kitty into the tub, bathing kitty, and the way kitty will get her revenge afterwards. He even includes a quiz to test your knowledge. The author makes sure that the reader knows this from the start. To be honest, this one had me at the title, and it didn't disappoint. Okay, I had to sing praises for the newest Bad Kitty book.
